JNR Networks is a small but growing IT Firm, located in Southern Arizona, that looks at IT differently. We were formed by husband and wife team, James and Natalie Riley, with a vision to transform the traditional IT provider model. We start by focusing on our clients' businesses, the people in the business and the tasks that they are seeking to accomplish. We use our business knowledge, along with our IT knowledge, to advise them and help to implement solutions that meet their business needs. While we are still an IT provider, we ensure that IT exists as a subservient layer that serves the business and people within it. Our long-term goal is to become our clients' outsourced CIO working intimately with them to help drive their business with technology and business solutions.
The notes below are written directly from our CEO, James Riley. They are direct and honest, a reflection of how he works and leads his team:
Our success depends on hiring phenomenal team members. This is hard work...very little about what we do is 8 - 5. We put in long and hard hours to serve our clients, often, with little praise. This environment will be tough on your ego as you will be pushed to do things that stretch you on an almost daily basis. You WILL fail and, to be successful here, you must be able to admit that failure, work with your team to remedy the failure and learn from it. In fact, our entire culture is built around the success that can only come from failure. We are constantly seeking to improve. We have found that the most successful people on our team are not looking for a "job" but are, instead, looking for a place where they can fulfill at least a part of who they are called to be. The team members that fit our culture are extremely loyal. As a result, will do everything we can to empower your success, both personally and professionally. However, we also do not keep people around that are a wrong fit for our culture and don't work well in our team environment.
Here are some of the characteristics we have found to be present in successful team members:
* Willing to fail
* Humble attitude/Willingness to learn
* STRONG work ethic
* Genuinely caring for others (both team members and clients)
* Ability to work independently while remaining within a team structure
* Follows rules and guidelines, even when they don't make sense
* Desire to trust and follow leadership
* Willingness and desire to, respectfully, challenge the status quo
* Integrity (Do what you say you're going to do)
Here are some of the characteristics that we have found do NOT make a successful team member:
* Thinks they "know it all"
* Just wants to punch a clock
* Believes in situational ethics
* Thinks they should be able to make individualistic calls instead of working with a team
* Thinks rules are made to be bent when it feels justified
To be clear about what the job actually is, we are looking for an entry-level technician that is interested in growing their skillset. This person will, likely, start out working our helpdesk and will be trained to do higher-level tasks, visit clients onsite and much more. We have an apprenticeship culture that fosters organic growth and knowledge sharing among our team so, if you're willing to work hard, there's virtually no limit to where you'll be able to go. All of our team members work from their own house. You will have ready access to the rest of the team via IM, video chat, phone, our ticketing system and much more. If you happen to have years of IT experience and are interested in our team, please do apply as we are always open to hiring more senior team members, if the right one comes along.
At this point, you might be asking where the typical job posting data is about what skills you need to have and so on. We want to be clear that you do need to have skills but those skills are worthless if you are not a proper fit for our culture. Most job postings have a list of things that the ideal candidate should and must have. We intentionally leave those things out because most of them are obvious and are corporate boilerplate stuff that is mostly ignored. Yes, we want you to have an education. Yes, we want you to be able to write. Yes, we want you to be a team player. Yes, yes, yes...you've heard all of this before. What you know and have done is important and we want you to help us understand what you have done that qualifies you for what we need. However, your past is only one part of what we are looking at. We are far more concerned with where you are going than what you have done. We want to hire people that are capable of learning, want to learn, are driven to grow, embody our culture, will work incredibly hard and can handle a variety of tasks with precision and accuracy. If that is you, please help us understand how that plays out in your life. If that isn't you, don't bother listing your credentials as they don't really matter much.
Have we scared you away yet or, maybe, have we just made you more interested?
We have seen some very nice people come and go from our team over the years and, as a result, have learned a lot about what does and does not work with our culture. Our desire is to be very clear about what we are looking for and what we know doesn't work on our team. Take a moment and be really honest. If the things we're talking about are really a stretch for you, we wish you well but this is probably not the right place for you to apply. If we aren't a right fit for each other, it is better that we realize that now rather than somewhere down the road, where we've all struggled to make a wrong fit work. We've done that and it ends up just being miserable for everyone.
