Why rent skis on Mt Lemmon to learn when you can have these?
Elan Skis. I learned on these in 2012 and they have been stored inside, unused since 2013. My ski buddy told me these were “state of the art” in 1996-1997 timeframe, because they were parabolic and the first of their kind.
I measured them as best I could and they are between 160-163 cm (tip is curled so hard to get an exact measurement) and 61mm under foot. I’m 5’6 and 155 pounds and these worked fine.
Good for carving and icy conditions, but long and parabolic, so also works on a powder day.
Have a size 8 Or 8.5 men’s boot to go with it (that’s an approximate size... ) for free if they fit you! They are already fitted to the bindings. Recommend a professional tuneup before use.
“But Elan, the odd little factory in Begunje, Slovenia, was never threatened by the Salomon monocoque. Presciently, in 1990 it had developed its own cap ski, the MBX Monoblock. By ’94 Monoblock sales subsidized the creation of a complete set of cap-style SCX molds. Elan not only had a lead in shaped skis, it had a catchy name for them: “When Jurij tried to describe the turn shape to a journalist, he used the word parabolic,” Adams recalls. “And that’s what we named the ski.”
