Custom One-Of-A-Kind Fender 8 String Baritone/Bass-8 w/Teisco Goldfoil and Dano Lipstick Pickups 30” Scale Electric Guitar
You’re looking at a one-of-a-kind 8 string Baritone/Bass 8 that was built on a Bronco Bass platform with a 30” scale maple neck. It has 6 courses, with the middle two courses paired in octaves. It has an original 1960s Japan Teisco Gold Foil pickup paired with a vintage Dano Lipstick pickup in a six-saddle Tele style bridge.
The sounds you can achieve with this singular instrument range from “Swamp to Surf, Blues to Fusion, Psych to Shoe-Gaze; and all points between”…
Dual volume pots with a master tone, similar in configuration to a Jazz Bass, all passive, complete the electronics set-up. Short vid sample here: https://youtu.be/0jIGuemXUCo
You can get an idea of how you could play rhythm or melody and bass parts simultaneously. Or use a looper for all sorts of interesting layering...
This instrument has to be played and heard to get an idea of its capabilities. It is set up with low action and easy to play; I like to use open tunings with hybrid slide and fingers, which you can hear a short bit of in the linked sound sample. It is presently tuned an octave below a guitar, E to E, but sounds great played in various open tunings, as you can hear on the above short vid.
As it is presently tuned, it goes as low as a bass; and the octave strings push it up into the guitar range.
I use the Stringjoy online tension calculator to determine working string tension setups:
