I am selling my secondary, 26-string Gu Zheng (Chines Zither). This is a larger model than what one generally sees. 18, 21, and 23-string instruments are more common. This has a lovely sound, thanks to the extra strings on both ends, especially the bass side. Made from typical, exotic Chinese woods. The artwork is lovely. Mine is in perfect shape because it has always been my number two. But now I need to move this on.
It comes with stands (slightly mis-matched color). It is relatively light for its size.
You must play this instrument to appreciate its exotic, mesmerizing sound. It has a fullness of tone because of the extra-large body. Like all Asian zithers related to the Gu Zheng, one plucks the string on the right side of the bridges and applies occasional pressure to the left side of the string to achieve those expressive pitch bends the instrument is known for. The bridges are moveable to allow any kind of tuning.
Cannot play? I couldn’t either before I got my first Gu Zheng. But I find it amazingly intuitive to play…I can show you in a very short while how to make glorious music immediately. I use basic guitar finger picks. But I sometimes play with “hammers” (from a hammered dulcimer) to achieve tremolos and percussive sounds. It really is an instrument that almost anyone can play. It is all in one scale so NO bad notes! Please come and see this instrument, or let me come to you if convenient.
I am asking a very reasonable $920—now $820– because it is in great shape but I want to sell. Please reply by hitting REPLY on this ad. Or call me at 520-331-three four three one. No scams please.
