Wanted: Help Installing Comma Four Autopilot Device on RAV4 Prime — Tucson
I recently purchased a comma four (openpilot autopilot system) for my 2022 RAV4 Prime and need someone to help with the installation. This is normally a DIY project and the instructions are straightforward — I just prefer having a second set of hands and someone comfortable with the process.
What the comma four does: It's an AI-based driver assistance system that adds automated lane centering and adaptive cruise control to supported vehicles. The RAV4 Prime is a fully supported car — no custom configuration needed.
The install has two parts:
Hardware (about 15–20 minutes):
· Remove the rearview mirror cover trim (on Toyotas this slides outward — no tools usually needed)
· Unplug the existing LKAS camera connector, plug it into the harness (pass-through), reconnect to camera port
· Stick the harness box in place with included adhesive inside the trim area
· Mount the comma four device on the windshield — centered horizontally, high enough to see from driver's seat
· Plug in the OBD-C cable between harness box and device
· Reinstall the trim with wiring routed cleanly inside, cable exiting from the top
Software (another 10–15 minutes):
· Connect device to WiFi (phone hotspot works fine) or use built-in SIM
· Select "Custom Software (Advanced)" on first boot
· Enter URL: openpilot.comma.ai and install
· Complete the on-screen training guide
· Do a short calibration drive at 15+ mph for a few minutes until the system locks in
· Pair with connect.comma.ai on phone for remote monitoring and auto-updates
That's the whole job according to their website. Should be easy. But I am not comfortable with this kind of work and want someone to do it for me.
I am on the west side by Speedway and Camino De Oeste.
If you are interested in this and capable of doing it, please respond with.
1. your qualifications to do this work
2. your skills and related background, particularly with tech devices in cars.
3. Your text number or phone number for contact.
As far as the pay, I want to be fair. I am thinking that if we can actually get it done in ½ hour, as it claims, $50 is reasonable. If it is likely to go longer, we can set up some sort of pay for the extra time. Let me know what works for you in this regard.
I don’t usually respond to what looks like multiple responses to every post as in ‘I can do it’ and nothing else. Talk to me and let me know you read the ad, understand it, and can do the work and tell me something specific about the install that shows you looked at it
