Kaleidescape KSERVER-2500 media server - $160 (NW)

This one has 7x 500GB installed.
I am also including a KREADER-2000 1U unit that is used to rip dvd's to the main unit.
The system powers up and connects to the network, BUT complains about a missing or bad disk.
There is an extensive Kaleidescape owners forum and all the old manuals and guides are still
available for download.
I have determined the following which may be of interest to others of the hack-it persuasion......
The reader runs a version of eCos (Redhat funded open source embedded os)
I assume the server "kos" (v6) is similarly eCos at it's core.
The server is based on a standard Intel server motherboard and has normal kb/vga connectors accessible
once the cover is removed.
A PCI card provides the 12x IDE drive capability. Linux compatibility of this card is unknown to me
but if it is not based on some standard chipset I would be astonished.
I do not have time to continue with this project.
