My name is Vince Radice, I run a small non profit that rescues entangled Sea Lions up in the northern Sea of Cortes close to Puerto Peñasco Rocky Point Mexico. We are raising funds for our next Sea Lion Rescue mission with the sale of this vessel.
Lan Yap is a 1977 Union and According to designer, Robert Perry, the HANS CHRISTIAN 36, MARINER POLARIS, UNION POLARIS 36, and EO 36 are all nearly the same, which, in turn, are lengthened versions of the HANS CHRISTIAN 34, the boat Perry was originally commissioned to design but, of which, few were built. Lan Yap has a 4 cylinder 49 HP Yanmar 4JH3E diesel engine that was recently rebuilt.
Engine hours approximately 3200 before recent rebuild. Engine rebuild was completed July of 2025 and includes following new parts.

Rigging:
Lan Yap is cutter rigged and all standing rigging was upgraded to stay locks. The rigging appears to be in excellent shape and I would have no issues whatsoever sailing this boat to Baja tomorrow. The stay sail would have been club-footed, but no longer has a boom. All the hardware is in place to rig as club-footed or non club-footed. Stay sail is old but functional. I recently restitched the leech of the main sail. The Main goes up a tide's track and is extremely smooth and friction free to raise and lower. The main is rigged with two jiffy reef points with hardware on port and starboard side of the boom, thus the main can be reefed on port or starboard tack with maximum ease quickly and efficiently. The main sail now sheets from the traveler on a block and tackle to the end of the boom which makes trimming the main sail simple and effortless compared to the original main sheeting style of running down to gooseneck and back to cockpit which incorporated many pulleys and several cheek blocks which eventually lead the sheet to the starboard side of companion way.
Main & Boom:
Main mast and boom and spreaders are spruce laminate with excellent LPU paint. Upon last inspection no dry rot was detected.
Galley:
Galley has a force 10 propane stove and oven with three burners and 12 volt refrigerator. All valves were serviced oven works as well. Galley sink has two sink wells and a Jabsco pump that delivers pressurized fresh water from a 100 gallon stainless steel tank located under main salon floor boards. Pressurized fresh water has an expansion tank that was disconnected when the 12 volt pump was being serviced and cab easily be hooked up once again if you would like an expansion tank. Pressurized water runs to head. Dickson propane barbecue located on stern pulpit.
Head:
Needs new pump for head but is still functional, I simply prime and pump it with fresh water. Head is installed with Y valve for holding tank or overhead discharge. Currently not using holding tank and Y valve is set to overhead discharge. Shower is located in head and drains into the main bilge.
Batteries and Electrical:
Two new D batteries were installed in 2023 and are charged by a Balmar alternator with solid state voltage regulator and two 75 watt solar panels mounted on radar tower aft of cockpit.
Lowrance radar course plotter and sonar package swings into view at companion way. All three units function perfectly.
VHF radio needs to be checked.
Heart inverter shore power was working when I checked it two years ago in boat yard.
Steering:
Steering on worm drive needs to be serviced. There is currently no auxiliary tiller on Lan Yap nor is there an autopilot.
Ground Tackle Windlass:
The oversized Lofrans windlass was serviced two years and has barely been used since. Retrieves the 55 pound CQR anchor and approximately 150 feet of ⅜ chain with no issues.
Lan Yap is currently in the water and ready to for your water trial
