This large 8-page illustrated c. 1970s menu from “Boom Trenchard's Flare Path” Restaurant in San Diego, California has wonderful historical aviation photos on front and back covers, a reproduction copy of the November 9, 1918 “Plane News,” blueprints and information on the Camel, Boom's Navigation Chart of Flight Memorabilia in the Restaurant and, of course, the restaurant’s food and drink offerings.
First Viscount Hugh Trenchard (1873–1956) was a soldier and airman. “Boom” began his service career as an infantryman. By 1912, when he learned to fly, he was a major who became a major-general in command of the Royal Flying Corps in France by 1915. The RFC was then part of the army but when the Royal Air Force was established as the world's first independent air force in 1918, Trenchard became its first professional head as chief of air staff, a post he held with only a brief interruption until 1929.
