Adult ADD / ADHD Support (Central Tucson)

The next CHADD adult support group meeting is this Wednesday, November 11.
It's from 7:00 until 9:00 in the evening. If you're a little late, come in anyway -- we're used to it.
We meet monthly (except December) to discuss whatever is on our minds.

We meet at the University Medical Center, 1501 N. Campbell Avenue. We use a conference room on the first floor, in the back left corner of the cafeteria. If they moved us, the front desk can tell you where to find us.

If you park in the multi-level lot, we can't validate your ticket. BUT the toll booth closes at 9, so there's no one to collect your money anyway. There also seems to be free parking on the street outside the parking lot during this time.

This meeting is for adult ADD/ADHD. There are other monthly support groups for parents of ADD/ADHD children. There is no child care provided at any of these meetings.

Feel free to join us if you or someone you know is affected by ADD/ADHD in any way. Also feel free to bring family or friends. CHADD of Tucson has a web site for other info/resources:

I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce Tucson's fastest growing motorcycle shop Fast Lane Choppers, we have been building and servicing motorcycles in Tucson AZ since 2006 it has been under the current owner since Feb. 2008. We build one of a kind, world class choppers and death traps, as well as chop the shit out of any stock bike; we also service anything from v twins to twin cams. All mechanics have been factory trained by Harley Davidson and completed 16 month training courses at MMI they have also taken early model training that covers Harley Davidson all the way back to 1936.
We have built about 20 bikes for everyone from cage fighters to corrections officers. Our first bike was "The Bitch". That was a 10:1, 103 cu. in. kick-only, mag fired, alternator shovelhead, in a Flyrite roller with a ratchet-top four speed, 3 inch open belt drive, and a MOON oil bag. That was the first of many jockey-shifts, fast as hell chops.

WARNING TO ALL: Be very careful playing in either a cash game or tournament game in the Tangerine / La Canada area in Oro Valley. Be aware of who is seated at the game and keep your eyes on the deck of cards at all times. Never allow the cards to be removed from the playing surface. Furthermore this game usually has the homeowner friends seated at the table lowering your odds in the game because the friends are working the game with the homeowner. This group is prying on new players they find on Craigslist as they run listings of their game. Your best bet is not to attend the game in this area. The homeowner has recently moved to this area from the eastside of Tucson. This warning is only for the game that's being played in the Tangerine / La Canada area. If you are hosting games watch for a guy who removes the deck from the table and places the deck in his lap.

Once the deck of cards is removed from the table and brought to the dealers lap the deck is being stacked by bringing cards to the top so that the dealer has a winning hand. The friends at the table are to distract the rest of the players so that the dealer can pull off the stacking of the cards. Also watch how the cards are shuffled as the dealer is watching the cards as they are shuffled this giving the dealer info. on what cards to bring to the top.

As for the comments to this post, "I suspect the comments are left by the homeowner in question". When stacking is done correctly it�s very tough to notice. Go to You-Tube and you can see someone who can stack the cards on the shuffle. These clowns are stacking the deck while the cards are in the dealers lap. The particular homeowner has brought his game to other games around town where this activity has been seen by a number of players.

Who we are...

We are a group of Tucson residents that love playing poker. The ages of the group members range from 25 to 75 - a great bunch of guys and we welcome anyone that loves playing poker. We have two hosts for our games that both live in Northwest Tucson about 25 minutes from the university area. We play every Friday and the cycle started August 1st 2008. Our game is a low stakes, friendly game and the game played varies week to week (see the calendar for details.) We try to emulate a casino ring game and tournament format in every way possible from table, tournament keeper, to cards, and chips. For regular holdem nights, we start with a turbo tournament (10 minute blinds) that usually lasts about 1½ hours. After the tournament, we switch to a ring game that lasts as long as there are players willing to play. Except for the blinds, which are much lower, no hourly play rate, a rotating dealer and no rake, our game is a close facsimile of a real casino style game. Our club was started with the idea of playing cheap poker, but everyone contributes to a kitty that pays for clean-up and game accessories. If you are conditioning your play and style for higher stakes games, our club is a great place to start.

Despite having more than 20 players in our club, we still occasionally have trouble filling a 10 seat table. We are actively seeking new players that are not posers and who can commit to regular attendance. If you're looking for a weekly game like ours, please contact the administrator to receive a reservation form. Reservations are distributed the day following a game and are first come first serve, so everyone has and equal chance of getting a seat.

The new Aldea youth program is geared toward youths ages 11-18--middle school and high school ages. We'll have social events, service projects, leadership opportunities and of course bible-based teachings and spiritual seeking. We're hoping to have our first meeting of youth, parents and all interested parties by the end of October. At this meeting we'll make plans for "youth service", get ideas from youth about what they want from their program, sign-up volunteers and have awesome snacks.

The youth program will closely align with the beliefs and mission of Aldea. A major component of the youth group is an open space for exploration of spirituality, diversity and growth. We don't necessarily have answers; we're enjoying the search.

I am interested in starting a private instruction group for homeschooled kids. I would like this to be more than a co-op, and meet more than once a week for playtime. I don't want this to be a full-blown private school either. I want to provide an option for homeschooling parents and their children to have the benefit of homeschooling, but also reap the rewards of a small school. I am wanting to provide monthly thematic units, complete with crafts, field trips, and integrated curriculum, based on the needs and interests of the children. I want to organize small get-togethers, read-ins, bird-watching, gardening, concerts, cooking, charity events, and moms/dads days out, etc. I also would like to provide clubs such as chess, drama, dance, anything else I can get going.
I am a certified teacher, fingerprinted, CPR certified, and a mom. I want to do this as a substitute to my current position, in the public schools. If you are interested, please let me know how many children you have, how long you have been homeschooling, what specific programs you would be most interested in, and what you would be willing to pay for a program such as this. Also, please let me know your location (Tucson, Marana, Oro Valley, Sahuarita, etc. )

Amado Territory Ranch Pond

The Amado Territory Ranch Pond is 70ft x 30ft x 5ft (avg) which translates to about 80,000 gallons. There is a 300ft stream that meanders through the trees and serves the pond with fresh well water as well as a filtration system for the water that is pumped almost to the top from the pond. There are two 25ft natural filtration bogs at the side of the pond that will soon be filled wall to wall with bog plants! There is a more shallow area at one end for lilies and various plants. A stone waterfall brings aeration to the pond as well as the floating fountain. It is home to 75 donated goldfish, 100's of donated skeeter eaters, a couple bullfrogs and many neighborhood birds.

There will also be the Southwest Fiber Arts Festival going on at the Amado Territory Ranch on October 24th from 10am-4pm so make a day of it! There will be animals to pet, musicians to listen to, Fiber Arts and craft booths as well as the more permanent fixtures that include many many art galleries, Kristofer's Bistro & Catering and Stockman's Grill who will be cooking outside on the grill (I even heard rumor of a 1lb burger challenge). If you are not interested in having lunch at the Grill, that's OK but I have to say... you don't know what your missing!!

You are invited to bring water plants/starters or homeless goldfish (no Koi please, they will eat the filter) to dona...

Are you over 50 years old? Have you been struggling with your weight and finding that it has been contributing to health problems, yet you can't seem to master weight loss?

Recently I've come across a book called The Beck Diet Solution. The book is about strategies for success. There is also a companion workbook. My doctor says that he has seen people use the book successfully. The strategies come from a cognitive behavioral therapy approach.

I would like to hear from you if you are interested in exploring the book and using the workbook as a basis for a weekly or bimonthly study/support group. My thinking is that after so many failed attempts, focusing on strategy, rather than a specific diet, could be a better approach for the group. We may not all have the same dietary needs, but if we share the journey of putting these strategies into practice, perhaps we'll make progress together.

Most likely we'll be meeting in a library meeting room in central Tucson. It will be open to both men and women. If you have an interest or thoughts about the possibilities for this group, please email me. Thanks!

The next CHADD adult support group meeting is this Wednesday, October 14.
It's from 7:00 until 9:00 in the evening. If you're a little late, come in anyway -- we're used to it.
We meet monthly (except December) to discuss whatever is on our minds.

We meet at the University Medical Center, 1501 N. Campbell Avenue. We use a conference room on the first floor, in the back left corner of the cafeteria. If they moved us, the front desk can tell you where to find us.

If you park in the multi-level lot, we can't validate your ticket. BUT the toll booth closes at 9, so there's no one to collect your money anyway. There also seems to be free parking on the street outside the parking lot during this time.

This meeting is for adult ADD/ADHD. There are other monthly support groups for parents of ADD/ADHD children. There is no child care provided at any of these meetings.
